Teapot and Teacup Cupcakes

En Español

Every month and every day are special to celebrate our loved ones. Since May has its specialty to celebrate mothers around the world, I try to program myself to do something special for moms to share with the blog readers. This time I made these cupcakes beauties!

As a child I remember always seeing a teapot full of coffee on the top center of the stove at home. It always was full of fresh brewed coffee. My mom always brewed coffee in the mornings and afternoons and left the teapot on the stove so that my father would have it ready to serve as many times as he pleased. Coffee was one of the first things I learned to make for my mom and my dad, and is one of the recipes I cherish. For some it may seem as a simple recipe, but for Latinos, the café has to be colado to perfection.

Mothers are special and there is so much we have to thank them for and remember them. I wonder why so many times our memories of moms are of recipes and food. Could it be because moms cook with love?

Kitchens and recipes are intertwined with many fond memories of aromas, flavors and techniques of making different dishes from our grandmothers and mothers. My mom's delicious cuisine is my inspiration for cooking delicious meals, especially Dominican dishes. She is a very special person in my life and I am forever grateful for all the good teachings and virtues. I want to be like her, but I always wonder how my mom can do everything she does for my brothers and I, for my father when he was alive, and now for her grandchildren. I feel like it is impossible, the determination, dedication, and energy that we have today is not the same as our mothers have.

I would spend many whole afternoons to thank all the beautiful things mom has given me throughout the years. I will forever keep them in my mind, in my heart and in my way of being. We are miles away, but soon we’ll be drinking a cup of coffee together. May God continue to bless with many years of health and life.

I know that for many of us teacup and teapot fill us with fond memories of the kitchens of our mothers and our grandmothers. This is the reason why I wanted to share these teapot and teacup cupcakes this month. For me it's a blessing to be able to do this type of sweet creations for clients, friends, family, and especially for my daughters, who are my reason to celebrate every day as my mother's day!

Cupcake Toppers: Colorful Medical Theme

I did these cupcakes last week for a friend who wanted medical themed cupcakes with bright colors and these cuties are the result. Even though I favor pastel shades, these cupcake toppers look quite nice! As always, I had to share and save these in my blog.

Check out more photos of these in here: Cupcake Toppers Medicina Coloridos.

Thank you for stopping by. Coments and sharing are always welcome :)

One Direction (1D) Cupcakes

En Español

Fans would dare to do anything for their favorite artist, including eating them in a cupcake!

These unique One Direction (1D) cupcakes toppers were a custom order from a young customer. The photo I was given at time of the order and used as a guide, belongs to Litte Cherry Cake Company.

I enjoyed working on all the hair styles in fondant, they do take a bit of time, but I am more than satisfied with the end result!

For all the One Direction fans here are you cupcakes!

Tracey Rothwell is the creator of these 1D cupcake toppers, and she show us to make the Harry version in a video I share below.

Medical and Get Well Themed Cupcakes

En Español

Medical and get well themed cupcakes, another cupcake creation that I made for a client inspired by a photo they sent me from the Internet. Of course it takes a great amount of time to do all the details in themed cupcake toppers, but I really enjoy making them. Have you worked on cupcake toppers before? Do you enjoy making them?

I make my toppers using fondant only and keep them covered for those that do like to eat them. Most of the time they do get eaten and I happy with that. How about you, do you like to eat cupcake toppers?

I believe they make a lovely "get well" gift and also are adequate for events targeted for medicine or doctors.

I love the way the stethoscope came out. I can't wait to make sweet things like these for my daughter when she graduates in a few years from med school. In the meantime I'll keep practicing!

"The more wealth people have, the more “friends” they have to help spend it. So the rich really gain nothing. They can only look at their wealth.  Those who work hard all day come home and sleep in peace. It is not important if they have little or much to eat. But the rich worry about their wealth and are not able to sleep."- Ecclesiastes 5:11-12

Miami Heat Theme Cupcakes

En Español

Hi! Are you ready for spring break? I am, but I feel cheated because two of my daughters only get two days off. I really miss the one-week long Easter break with the family, but I have set my mind to be grateful for the slow pace week that waits ahead. I love the family time and the celebration of gratefulness of our LIVING SAVIOR in Holy Week!

These Miami Heat cupcakes are one of my favorites of all the orders I have been working on the last couple of months. I made these for a client, but first I would like to clarify that the design idea is not mine, I was sent a photo by email of what the client wanted exactly and I tried to the best I could to get the correct shapes and look.

I ran the photo through google images and I believe it belongs to Sweet Charity.

I did all the toppers the night before and set them out to dry away from humidity.

  • The fondant I used is Satin Ice.in black and red. The orange color I made using white fondant and adding a few drops of yellow and red.

I hope you like them and get inspired to make some nice basketball theme cupcakes for your friends, family, and clients.

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. - 2 Thessalonians 3:16

Before I move on to the chocolate cupcakes, cameo mold and the videos, I would like to thank YOU for the wonderful compliments in comments and emails that I receive on daily basis, I do read them all! Thank you for reading, choosing and sharing Mari's Cakes content!

A few things I love...
I love the color blue, I love chocolate, I love cameos and now, I love this cameo silicone mold that I used to make these adorable cameos ideal for beautifully decorating cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. These cupcake toppers are a true beauty and I LOVE them. If I were to pick a blog post that identifies my personality, this is surely the one I'll pick.

For the Cameos Cupcake Toppers you'll need:
  • Baby blue and white fondant. I used this one
  • This recipe Royal Icing recipe for the bead border around the cameos and also could be used for gluing them to the fondant topper.
  • My favorite Chocolate Cupcakes recipe

Check out these other beauties, they make great cupcakes for a wedding. By the way if you live in Dominican Republic, and are interested in ordering these cupcakes send me an email.

In How-To Fondant Cover Cupcakes, I show a step by step and also share a video on how I cover cupcakes with fondant to decorate like these below.

Baseball Cupcakes

En Español

I created this baseball cupcake for all you baseball fans! This month not everything should be red, pink, and with bows, boys also would love something made out with them in mind too!

A few months ago I made some baseball cupcake toppers in fondant, and since then I had these in my mind ... ball shaped frosting. I almost never get chance to do things like these because at home girls are majority, with only one king, my husband, and he is not a sports fan.

Just like my dad, who was a baseball fanatic, my brother is one too. I dedicate this post to him and also want to let him know that we love him very much!

 My brother and my dad.

The white frosting is Italian meringue, and the red lines are made with royal icing.

The plain round tips like #00 and #1 can get blocked with the smallest grain of icing sugar. To avoid this I place the royal icing in a new nylon stocking first, knot it to seal it, and then place it in the pastry bag. This helps out a lot when you need to make thin borders and lines.

What you need to make these baseball cupcakes:

  • Cupcakes of your choice find a list of my cupcake recipes here: Cupcakes.
  • White frosting of your choice. I used Italian meringue
  • Red royal icing  if you use Italian meringue with out butter, and red buttercream if you use white whip cream or buttercream.
  • Big round plain tip to form the ball
  • Small #1 round plain tip for the red lines
  • Pastry bag
  • Blue cupcake cups

School Theme Cupcakes

En Español

A few days ago I shared a photo of mini fondant apples toppers I was making for a custom order of cupcakes.  Many of you liked it on facebook and I couldn't wait until September to share these! This made me think about how we tend to centralize our activities based on seasons,  influenced very much by the commercial calendar, and it should not be like that. Do not wait until September or end of the school year to thank an exemplary teacher or a dedicated student. I celebrate each day as a special one without waiting for a specific day.

As I have said before, working with fondant can be addictive because it like playing with clay, and that makes work fun. To me there is no better job in the world then to make sweet creations.

This time I was asked to make these cupcakes for a teacher. In many occasions I am sent a photo of what the customer wants, and I try to create what they want as much as can to me exactly and make to make them happy. I did not know who the photo belonged to until today when I started to search the web. I am happy I could share my version, and also tell you where the idea came from. Check out Tammy’s blog, Wonderful World of Cupcakes her the inspiration for these cupcakes I made. Although she does not have a step by step, I think I did a good job with the toppers.

What I like best about these cupcakes are the mini apples and notebooks. Today I will show you how I did the fondant apples toppers.

Form a rope /roll about ½” (1 cm) wide and cut it into ½” (1 cm) pieces.

Form balls that are slightly oval because when you press to make the hollow on the top which will push down on them.

Make the stem in the same manner as the mini red balls for apples except that for this the roll is thinner and in the color brown or black.

The mini leaves are made by taking the petals of a small fondant flower just as I did towards the end of this video: Mini Fondant Flowers. Paste the stem and leaf with a little corn syrup, and voila!

The mini apples toppers or “manzanitas” are ready to decorate your cupcakes or cakes.

Notes:
a) All these figures are must be made in fondant. I recommend for you to make them one to two days prior to using them to allow time for them to dry and harden.
b) The recipes: chocolate cupcakes, the filling is dulce de leche, and the frosting is Italian meringue.

Have a blessed day! :)
