Medical and Get Well Themed Cupcakes

En Español

Medical and get well themed cupcakes, another cupcake creation that I made for a client inspired by a photo they sent me from the Internet. Of course it takes a great amount of time to do all the details in themed cupcake toppers, but I really enjoy making them. Have you worked on cupcake toppers before? Do you enjoy making them?

I make my toppers using fondant only and keep them covered for those that do like to eat them. Most of the time they do get eaten and I happy with that. How about you, do you like to eat cupcake toppers?

I believe they make a lovely "get well" gift and also are adequate for events targeted for medicine or doctors.

I love the way the stethoscope came out. I can't wait to make sweet things like these for my daughter when she graduates in a few years from med school. In the meantime I'll keep practicing!

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. - Isaiah 53:5

Daffodil Cake

En Español

This is a very light lemony marble cake made of a rich spongecake and angel food cake. The following recipe was adapted from McCall’s Cooking School daffodil cake. I thought it would be a great alternative to the customary carrot cake or coconut cake that are served this season.

To serve, sprinkle with some confectioners’ sugar, or accompany with some vanilla ice-cream. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did at home.

Since the cake has a cheerful yellow and white color I made some gumpaste daffodils to add a spring decor to it. A perfect and easy to follow daffodil gum paste flower step by step could be found here: Cake Journal.

In the past I have mentioned that the lemons here are green, that is the reason you see the lemon peel as green. Green or yellow it is fine. We call them lemons, but they realy are limes. "Limón criollo" and "limón persa" are the common variety grown and sold here.

This recipe calls for cake flour. In the notes I have included how to substitute it if you do not have any at hand.

I dedicate this recipe to two of my princesses, Ruby and Topaz, who love angel food cake.

Have a blessed day!

"The more wealth people have, the more “friends” they have to help spend it. So the rich really gain nothing. They can only look at their wealth.  Those who work hard all day come home and sleep in peace. It is not important if they have little or much to eat. But the rich worry about their wealth and are not able to sleep."- Ecclesiastes 5:11-12

Kitchen Tip: Tidy Meat!

The weather is scorching hot here, and I really wasn't feeling up to cooking tonight. However, I ended up making a quick and easy dish for dinner like this delicious rice dish but I made it with sardines instead of cod fish.

It's Friday, so why not whip up something simple and savor the evening!

Today, I have a kitchen tip that I'm sure you'll find useful for your food shopping adventures. I've been using plastic produce bags, which you can find for free in the fresh produce area of the supermarket, to package meat. This helps prevent spillage over other products in the shopping cart and keeps the freezer at home much tidier.

What kind of tricks or tips do you have for making food shopping, and storing food products safer and more organized?

Have a blessed weekend :)

Miami Heat Theme Cupcakes

En Español

Hi! Are you ready for spring break? I am, but I feel cheated because two of my daughters only get two days off. I really miss the one-week long Easter break with the family, but I have set my mind to be grateful for the slow pace week that waits ahead. I love the family time and the celebration of gratefulness of our LIVING SAVIOR in Holy Week!

These Miami Heat cupcakes are one of my favorites of all the orders I have been working on the last couple of months. I made these for a client, but first I would like to clarify that the design idea is not mine, I was sent a photo by email of what the client wanted exactly and I tried to the best I could to get the correct shapes and look.

I ran the photo through google images and I believe it belongs to Sweet Charity.

I did all the toppers the night before and set them out to dry away from humidity.

  • The fondant I used is Satin Ice.in black and red. The orange color I made using white fondant and adding a few drops of yellow and red.

I hope you like them and get inspired to make some nice basketball theme cupcakes for your friends, family, and clients.
